General

  • Pelvic floor physical therapy for kids is a highly specialized niche of physical therapy specifically for treating children with pelvic floor conditions and dysfunctions. This includes constipation, urinary and fecal incontinence, bedwetting, withholding behaviors, pelvic or abdominal pain and sensory difficulties with potty training. Pediatric pelvic floor rehab utilizes treatment centered around purposeful play and muscle coordination to establish or restore healthy bowel/bladder habits, target muscle imbalances and enhance body awareness/control. We provide families with the necessary materials and education to ensure the best chance at success when treating conditions that can place a massive amount of distress on a child and their families.

  • We offer in-person physical therapy visits for evaluations and treatments in your home. We also offer alternative options including virtual coaching and educational materials. All of these services begin with a free consultation phone call to decide what your needs are.

  • We work with all ages of kiddos! From a colicky infant struggling with constipation to your 16 year old struggling with pelvic pain! The most common age for these concerns are children ages 4-9.

  • We are a mobile clinic, meaning we come to you! To reduce the strain on your family’s commitments and ensure your child is comfortable, we treat you in your own home. We serve the Colorado Springs area and immediately surrounding areas including Monument and Fountain. We do anticipate a central office option at some point in the future as an alternative as well.

  • In an insurance-based clinic, we found there were many limitations that dictated what care we could deliver. Plus, when a PT is seeing 15+ patients a day, delivering individualized care is nearly impossible. This private pay model allows me to deliver individually tailored care without a third party determining what we are able to do and for how long. We find the number of treatments needed are largely reduced as well. If you are paying a $40 copay 1-2x/week for a year without success, it adds up! With this model, we are able to spend extended time preparing for sessions, conducting our sessions, traveling and creating a summary after each visit. This is in addition to development of tailored, family-centered plans of care for each individual patient. This model is what allows us to ensure maximal success for your child!

Some insurances may offer reimbursement for this treatment. We can provide you with detailed invoices/superbills for your convenience.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or send us an email directly at casey@happyheartspelvicfloorpt.com. We will then reach out to you to schedule our consultation call!

  • Nope! In the state of Colorado, you do not need a physician’s referral to begin physical therapy. Meaning you can reach out directly to us to get started! However, if you intend to be reimbursed through your insurance, be sure you inquire about their specific regulations.

Appointments

  • Evaluations are 60-90 minutes.
    Treatments are 45-60 minutes.
Virtual coaching sessions are typically 30-45 minutes but can go up to an hour depending on your child’s ability to stay engaged.

  • On average, children require 6-12 sessions over 3-6 months. This is an average and not concrete and largely depends on your child’s presentation, history and needs.

  • Initial evaluations consist of subjective gathering of you and your child’s history and and present concerns, followed by a physical assessment of movement patterns and muscle coordination. Treatments center around purposeful play to ensure your child is involved and these exercises will target the deficits found in the evaluation. At some point in the plan of care, pelvic floor assessment may be indicated which includes external observation of the pelvic floor and reflex testing. It’s important to note that pelvic floor rehab for kiddos never involves internal assessments. We bring materials and toys for all of our sessions, though your kiddo would likely love to have some of their favorites available too. We also follow up each session with a summary email to explain what we did, my findings and outline your home program to ensure clarity.

  • You and your child’s comfort is my #1 priority. Much of the first session is comfort and rapport-building with you and your child. Many pelvic floor related questions will be answered in the intake forms that are completed prior to the first session. At the first sessions, we often rely on parents’ information to reduce the pressure on the child. We communicate to your child that we are simply working on muscle movement, getting stronger and being aware of what our bodies are doing. Our vocabulary will expand as they are comfortable. External pelvic assessments, if indicated, are only performed once the child is comfortable, typically at a subsequent session, and always with a parent present. We discuss extensively with your child why we are doing this treatment to ensure they are understanding. With time and discussion, we find your child will often begin to lead the conversation as they become more connected to their body.

  • We are a private pay business, meaning we do not accept insurance to allow us to deliver individualized treatment tailored to your needs without insurance dictating your care.

Pricing varies based on what services you require. After a free consultation call, should you choose to move forward, initial evaluations are $175, follow-up treatments are $125 and virtual coaching is $85 per session. With any of these services, all educational materials are included at no extra charge.

Some insurances may provide reimbursement for this speciality area of physical therapy. I can provide you with detailed invoices/superbills for your convenience. Be sure to inquire with your specific insurance about requirements.

  • If you are within 5 miles of us, there is no travel fee! If you are more than 5 miles, there is a travel fee that is determined based on distance. This is decided during our free consultation call so you will know ahead of time; no surprise costs here! We anticipate having a central office available as an option soon, which if course would have no additional fee associated.
